baker baker

cooked my first loaves using the River Cottage Handbook #3 on Bread and the results were mighty pleasing. used beautiful stonemilled organic plain and wholemeal flour with a mix of sesame, linseed and sunflower seeds. coated the finished loaves in oats. made two and will swap one loaf with a work mate for his sublime sourdough tomorrow.

spent a quiet but productive weekend. lots of crafting, cooking, relaxing.....made it to the pool this morning for a class and after getting up fairly early to bake bread am a little pooped!

about to put a big pot of dahl on for a lazy sunday night dinner with friends. hope your weekend was just as lovely!

necklace swap

nina and i decided to swap handmade necklaces. she recieved mine yesterday and thankfully it makes the cut! i used fabric i bought in tokyo and some other bits and pieces.

can't wait to see what mine looks like when it arrives.

just bought some patchwork implements (a rotary cutter, a cutting board and a square template) as I'm going to try my hand at making a playmat for the mini lady. i've got pretty bad preggy induced rsi in my right hand at the moment so i thought i'd swap things up from my crochet to some sewing. wish me luck and stay tuned for some progress shots!

spring sneak peak

so many flowers about and the sunshine this weekend has been sublime!

op shop loot:
2 x great penguin kids books
1 x stainless steel cannister for my flours
1 x old clear glass pyrex lidded container

a girl in front of me in the queue found an entire gocco print set for $12.99!!! if i wasn't having a baby in 3 months (ie: zero time to get absorbed in a new craft) i would have been totally envious. instead i was just bursting with happiness for her and told her so!

broken oven

had some friends over for dinner last night - and our oven went on the blink! we managed to rescue our sticky roast chicken AND the broc/cauliflower canneloni but somehow using the grill and loads of alfoil....tasted delicious in the end but it does mean i won't be able to bake for my monday bread swap. looks like i might be making a soup or curry paste instead.

love love love this top by the talented Jenny over at wikstenmade and you can buy the pattern here

enjoy what remains of your weekend! i'm off for coffee in northcote and then off to do a bit of op shopping.

mini diane #2

mini diana

i bought a mini diana over summer whilst visiting home. it has two settings, one square format and one that fits two images on one negative. this makes rolls of film last for aaaaaaages. so i love getting film developed and being reminded of days gone and occasions in the past. quite fun to see the summer sun and snippets from our visit to sydney.
if anyone wants a super easy, fun, low-fi camera - this is it! it just uses regular 36mm film and my dad gifted me with a bunch of expired film which is perfect for this toy camera. great for swapping up just using the digital all the time.
(saw my baby's leg/arm/something move and kick my belly last night!!! makes me smile)

up close

on the weekend we visited an exhibition that is part of the Festival I work for. it contains work from Nan Goldin, Carrol Jerrems, Larry Clark and William Yang. Nan Goldin is one of my all time favourite photographers and a heavy influence on me during my 5 years in photography school.

the exhibition 'Up Close' is on at the Heide Museum of Modern Art and can highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of social documentary style photography.

inutero music

Kee always brags about "seeing" The Cure whilst inutero......
Last night, our mini lady saw Midlake and whether she liked it or not we can't say but she did give Kee a massive thwump when he had his hand on my belly. Regardless, we loved the show. Their musicianship and harmonies were to die for and even though it's starting to not be so comfy staying up so late and standing at gigs, I'm so glad we didn't miss this show!
Other shows the mini lady has attended inutero:

spencer tunick in sydney
