false advertising

the weather has been amazing and we managed to ram our pram into the back of the estelle to drink beers on haystacks in the sun as part of the high noon festival. i felt bad 'cause all these people were coo'ing at my tiny human who was happily dancing on my lap for an entire hour and it felt like false advertising. i felt like i needed to have a sign that hung around my neck saying "criminally tired. hungry. pants i just washed and am wearing already covered in soggy cruskit".

BTW - how amazing are cruskits? yes they are tasty but boy, i never imagined they could buy you 5 minutes of peace. I try not to give her too many cause I just imagine them being like polystyrene buoys expanding in her gut. although maybe they could absorb all of those blueberries she has been fanging for lately!

we did have a pretty great weekend though. besty in town. roasted pork belly. ate way too much food. went op shopping. again - its all in the balance...............

mixed bag

cam to gif

mixed bag weekend. saturday = good. sunday = bad.

realised we had cooked lunch for friends for the first time since lottie pearl's birth. felt like a 'moment'. lottie pearl marked the occasion by giving herself a giant, puffy, black eye.

the second in as many weeks!

weekend!

opshopping, sewing bibkerchiefs and zippy purses, eating and cooking too much, lunching, dinners, all nighters (for K that is), great grandparents and listening to BON IVER's new record over and over and over!

what i didn't capture on film was my sunday arvo tantrum  at K about NOTHING. turns out i just needed a nap, a big cuddle and a glass of wine!

colour me happy

its thursday - almost time for the LONG weekend....even though mum has gone, we've had a fab couple of days. i'm really enjoying all the giggling sessions Lottie Pearl and I seem to get up to these days. kinda like we have a continual private joke about nothing but which makes us lose it every time! i'm never shy about playing games with her on a bus or in public even though i must sound mad!

i'm hoping to finish off the handmade albums i've been working on of Lottie's birth and first few days home and i'm also hoping to go and put an overlocker on layby!!! *eeep* it feels a little crazy buying something so huge when i have such little crafting time but from all accounts these things save you STACKS of time......especially when sewing for the mini lady.

and on a more existential note - do you find it a positive or a negative to always dream or wish you were doing something different, being somewhere else? does it mean you are never happy with right now or do you think it is part of life to dream about your future?

apologies - can't remember where on ETSY i found these tin cups......

weekend

my mum visited this weekend all the way from perth. it meant k & i could sneak off for a few of life's luxuries like dinners, climbing, crafting and pubbing!

mum (or Gran) left last night and we miss her so much already. watching her play with Lottie Pearl i saw so much of myself. my mum never had a career as such but i think she did such an amazing job with us 3 kids. i'm proud to see myself as a mama in her. at times, i wish it were like the olden days and she lived just down the street. not to be in this modern world.....

on another note....i've been thinking about how many real friends i have. i heard an article on ABC radio about how many friends a person has. how many do you think you have? i've always been quality over quantity but particularly now with a baby i think my circle of friends has become even smaller. and i know i appreciate so much the friendship i have gained through this here blog.

above are some horses from our collection of horse paintings. one day we'll have that house, with a big fireplace and a wall full of horses......

update: owl binky is officially ACCEPTED!

weekend

of course weekends are the best. it means i do this whole baby thing with kee by my side for a whole 2 days in a row!

//drinking super strong coffee with old italian men on sydney road//cruising smith street//listening to gil scott heron records//watching footy and movies//walking//saying goodbye to a friend//giggling at our super banal conversations//

and more importantly.....with this new lease on life (aka SLEEPING and SLEEPING BABY) we are starting to uncover ourselves, become a lil more comfy with this new family life and even though its winter right now......it almost feels like spring!

(saw these amazing MANIMAL moccassins in OBUS)

long weekend

lucky enough to have a 5 day weekend and it started with a 28 degree day....so i took a trip over to footscray and visited the huge savers and had a look around.

found the most gorgeous old toy pram but was wonderfully strong and resisted the urge to by it for her. instead i went home with some purple spotted seersucker fabric, 3 vintage floral pillowcases and an awesome multi-coloured embroidered cotton scarf for me.

i've also made the decision to stop driving anywhere further than my local pool.......a picture speaks a thousand words.

today is muggy and rainy and i'm taking it easy. kee was a driving force and helped me finish off packing our hospital bag which feels good. a few more things to pack for baby but at least all of our stuff is sorted. really is super surreal getting to this stage of the pregnancy!

baker baker

cooked my first loaves using the River Cottage Handbook #3 on Bread and the results were mighty pleasing. used beautiful stonemilled organic plain and wholemeal flour with a mix of sesame, linseed and sunflower seeds. coated the finished loaves in oats. made two and will swap one loaf with a work mate for his sublime sourdough tomorrow.

spent a quiet but productive weekend. lots of crafting, cooking, relaxing.....made it to the pool this morning for a class and after getting up fairly early to bake bread am a little pooped!

about to put a big pot of dahl on for a lazy sunday night dinner with friends. hope your weekend was just as lovely!

broken oven

had some friends over for dinner last night - and our oven went on the blink! we managed to rescue our sticky roast chicken AND the broc/cauliflower canneloni but somehow using the grill and loads of alfoil....tasted delicious in the end but it does mean i won't be able to bake for my monday bread swap. looks like i might be making a soup or curry paste instead.

love love love this top by the talented Jenny over at wikstenmade and you can buy the pattern here

enjoy what remains of your weekend! i'm off for coffee in northcote and then off to do a bit of op shopping.

up close

on the weekend we visited an exhibition that is part of the Festival I work for. it contains work from Nan Goldin, Carrol Jerrems, Larry Clark and William Yang. Nan Goldin is one of my all time favourite photographers and a heavy influence on me during my 5 years in photography school.

the exhibition 'Up Close' is on at the Heide Museum of Modern Art and can highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of social documentary style photography.

weekend in the grampians

spent a lovely weekend with 8 other friends rockclimbing, bushwalking, picnicing, devonshire-teaing, chatting, watching footy, bbq-ing and copious amounts of laughing. weekends like these are hard to beat.

(i even managed to do some baby cardi crocheting on top of hollow mountain!)

weekend away

visiting lici in canberra. the view from her loungeroom is pure autumnal bliss. lici took us to her fave 'secret' junk shop. one of the best i've been to in ages!

winter picnics, bushwalking, crosswords, op shopping and growers markets. great weekend!
