autumn

dahlias from our early friday morning pram walk

today is the first day of autumn. we have been doing a massive clean-upof things and it feels good. we did lots of cleaning out before Lottie Pearl came along but now she is here we really have an understanding of what things we need and don't need.

finding lots of things we love but no longer use or no longer foresee having the time to use. handing on, gifting and taking to the op-shop....

goodluck to uncle john who is intensive care in an induced coma. he will be having brain scans today and hopefully we recieve good news.

i'm sure lottie pearl would enjoy one of these! however, i'm currently knitting her daddy some slippers and a beanie

we took a family trip to the national gallery of victoria today and even ate a meal out together! what a treat!

good food day

what a day of lovely food and company!

breakfast: el joyero cafe (paprika charred corn, chorizo and fried eggs)
lunch: willow, russ, nina and us three (curried pumpkin soup, baked pumpkin, salad and then banana bread with double cream, blueberries and honey!)
dinner: leftover pumpkin soup

burst water pipes

dear me.

our water pipe burst under the bathroom sink and flooded our bathroom!

had to lay out all of our bits and bobs (deoderants, hair clippers, nail polish, jewellery, first aid kit) on towels to dry out.

what a disaster......

nail polish

at the moment there are packages left right and centre - all celebrating the arrival of Lottie Pearl! Still! I've gotten to know the mail man quite well!

meanwhile........a little tiny thing called painting your nails makes me feel like not such a drab ole' housewife when sometimes i can't even get out of my pj's!

when my sister visited we spoke about KIT nail polish and what colours we wanted. I have been lusting after a minty sort of pastel green and an orangey, pinky coral. I only have pink and red nailpolish and my sister SCOFFED at my small collection.

might splurge a lil with my pocket money this week!

we recieved some beautiful flowers upon the birth of Lottie Pearl - one of which was a white orchid which constantly reminds us of our time in Tokyo.
After nearly 3 months, a couple of the flower heads have dropped off..........

keepin' it simple

now all of our visitors have gone our little family is attempting to settle into somewhat of a routine. it is very loose and we are well aware it could all change in a heart beat but hey - in this moment it is our own way of taking a grip of this new life of ours.

a part of these new days is streaming live Radio National and it truly is life restoring. i love the tid bits of other people's lives - overseas, in the bush, down the street.........i forgot how much i enjoyed radio. i used to listen to the cbc a lot when i lived in canada.

also enjoying browsing new blogs....bawk bawk bawk is one of them! beautiful photos - with a quintessential australian feel. love! and how gorgeous is her dog, Poppy?

hard days

havin' a lil bubba sure is tough. hard to remind yourself that you'll have a settled baby all in good time. hard not to place too many expectations on you and your newborn. i think i've been expecting something different of Lottie Pearl. that is unfair on her and unrealistic for me. i think it is a big expectation that as a new mother you will love every minute of this new life. i had no idea how hard it would be physically, let alone emotionally. i mean - right now i am typing this with one hand, babe in other arm, bouncing on a fitball to help her get off to sleep as she has only had 2 x 40 minute naps today. oh and i have baby massage oil and poo all down my front.

it sure is cliched but when she smiles, or does something new or better than before i instantly forget all of that stuff.........

daily essentials (aka feeding table)

so, i always love posts like these from thankyou, ok where people post their every day essentials or what is in their handbags.

i'll save you the boredom of what is in my nappy bag.....but here is a glimpse of my essential feeding table next to my rocking chair. everything must be within reach....

+pen and paper for writing down feeding times
+remote control (martha stewart show in the morning and series such as sons of anarchy and bored to death)
+coffee cup / rooibos tea cup
+bub stuff (liquid vitamins, gripe water, lanolin, camera - yada yada yada)
+giant glass of water (breastfeeding makes ya thirsty!)
+bowl o dum dums!

i love this bowl. i have two with a matching salad bowl! great colours and shapes

daily developments

every day is different. but also very much the same. had to giggle when i saw "groundhog day" on today's date on the calendar.

brother and sister visiting. wish we could do more things with them but the weather has been prohibitive and really, Lottie is just too little to do too many things. can't wait till she is a little more comfy so we can partake in a few more things.
